Privacy Policy

Beneath exists to hold some of the most personal things you can write down: what you want your life to become, and the evidence that it's happening. We built it around a simple posture — your words are yours, the app simply remembers them for you. This page explains exactly what we collect, what we do with it, and what we never do.

What we collect

• Account: your email address and a password (stored as a hash by our authentication provider), plus an optional first name if you choose to give one — used only to greet you in the app.
• Your content: the Truths and Wins you write, the Rooms you organize them into, and the Reflections, suggestions, and Recaps generated for you. This content is stored in our database (hosted by Supabase), encrypted in transit and at rest.

That's the whole list. We collect no location data, no contacts, no advertising identifiers, and we run no analytics or tracking of any kind in the app.

AI features, and what leaves our systems

When you ask for a Reflection or a suggestion — or when a scheduled Recap is generated for a period you've completed — the text of the relevant entries, the names of the Rooms they belong to, and their timestamps are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic's Claude API) to generate that output. This is the only purpose your content is ever sent for.

• Your name, email, and account details are never included — requests carry only a pseudonymous identifier.
• Under the API terms we operate under, this data is not used to train AI models, and is retained by the provider only briefly for abuse monitoring.
• No data from any other user is ever included in a request, and your content is never used for analytics, benchmarking, or any purpose other than generating your own output.

Email (Letters)

If you opt in to Letters, we send your periodic Letter to your email address through our email provider (Resend). Email is inherently less private than the app — messages live in your inbox and can be forwarded — which is why Letters are off by default and every Letter includes an unsubscribe link. We never send marketing email.

Voice capture

If you use the microphone to speak instead of type, transcription is performed by Apple's speech recognition, on-device where your device supports it. We never receive or store your audio — only the text that ends up in the entry you choose to save.

Notifications

Any reminder you set is a local notification you configured yourself, like an alarm. We don't send push notifications, and the app will periodically ask whether you still want the reminder you set.

Deleting your data

You can edit or delete any entry at any time; deletion is immediate. Recaps are independent summaries and survive the deletion of the entries they drew from, until you delete them too. To delete your entire account and everything in it, email us at the address below — all of your content is purged from our database immediately, and any short-lived operational logs age out within 7 days at most.

What we never do

• Sell, rent, or share your data with anyone.
• Use your content for advertising or model training.
• Track you across other apps or websites.

Children

Beneath is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
